Southern Miss Opens Music City Challenge with Seven Top Eight Finishes Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss freshman Tyler Nicholls won the men's open high jump event to highlight seven top eight finishes Friday at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn.
Nichols, from Clinton, Miss., cleared his first attempt at 2.02 meters, while two other competitors could not clear that mark. Nichols, then skipped 2.05 meters, before clearing 2.08 on his final attempt to separate himself from the rest of the pack in the event. Teammate Maxiumus Littleton finished tied for fourth in that same event with a mark of 1.92 meters.
Three other Golden Eagle men enjoyed top eight finishes includes De'Aundre Ward with a third place in the seeded long jump at 7.57 meters, while Zayne Palomino added a fourth place showing in the high jump (invite) event with a mark of 2.16 meters and Kaya Ludgood rounded out the male finishers with a sixth place in the weight throw (17.76 meters).
A pair of Golden Eagles finished in the top six in the open high jump as Alana Simon captured third (1.65 meters) and Jelese Alexander tied for sixth (1.61 meters).
The meet continues Saturday with track events starting at 8:30 a.m., and the field events starting at 9:30 a.m.
