Vega Selected to Venezuelan U-20 National Team

CARACAS, Venezuela – Southern Miss women's soccer forward Rebeka Vega received an invite to the U-20 Venezuelan National Team last week. The Venezuelans will train in preparation of the 2024 CONMEBOL U-20 Tournament set to take place in Ecuador from April 11 until May 5 with the top four teams advancing to the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia.
"I am extremely proud of Rebeka," said head coach Mohammed El-Zare. "She understands her priorities and the sacrifices that she needs to make and just gets after it. It has been a joy coaching Becks at Southern Miss!"
Vega is no stranger to the Venezuelan National Team organization, having already played for the U-23 team last summer. While with the group, she helped the women's team to a 13-0 win over Dominica, netting herself a goal and an assist. Vega also propelled her team over Nicaragua, winning 2-0 last summer.
A rising sophomore from Lafayette, La., Vega played in 12 games last season for the Golden Eagles, making four starts. She scored on two of her 19 shots on goal in her debut year at Southern Miss. Before arriving in Hattiesburg, Vega played at Ascension Episcopal School (Lafayette, La.) where she scored 40 goals.
