Soccer's Rebeka Vega Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La.-Southern Miss Soccer forward Rebeka Vega was named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Vega recorded her first career brace Thursday versus Louisiana, helping lead the Golden Eagles to a crucial 4-1 victory in the team's final home match of the season.

Vega, who missed the first four games of the season while representing Venezuela at the 2024 FIFA U-20 World Cup, has quickly found her rhythm in conference play, tying Adaira Nakano for the team lead with five goals.

The forward, a product of Ascension Episcopal High School in Lafayette, La., has scored four goals in the last five games. Vega has scored all five of her goals in conference play, which is tied for the fourth most in the Sun Belt.

Vega is Southern Miss' first Player of the Week honoree this season and the first since September, 2023 when Nakano earned the award after recording a hat trick against Nicholls State.
