Indoor Track and Field Completes First Day in Houston Meet

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Indoor Track and Field team collected a first place showing, saw three other top eight finishes and had seven Golden Eagles advance to tomorrow's semifinal races, Friday, at the opening day of the Houston Meet/Robert Platt Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Za'Isha Fraser captured the Golden Eagles lone first place on the day in the women's triple jump, by posting a mark of 12.90 meters. Her jump was her longest of the winter as she captured her second meet championship of the season.
One other Golden Eagle female, Savi'a Varnell collected a fifth place in the 400 meters race with a time of 56.16, while Adrian Harris captured sixth in the men's race at 48.45. Connor Mozee rounded out the Southern Miss finishers in the weight throw with eighth place and a mark of 17.92 meters.
Warren Williams was the first Golden Eagle to advance to a Saturday semifinal race by posting a time of 8.10 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Then three Southern Miss runners advanced in the 60-meter race on both the women's and men's side.
Trinity Benson, Kenia Seals and Trinity Flagler, all qualified for the women's Saturday semifinal with times of 7.52, 7.54 and 7.59 seconds, respectively. The three men advancing to the semifinals included Kingsley Unorji (6.70) and Gracious Ushie (6.79), who each won their respective heats, along with Omar Austin's dash of 6.97 seconds who earned him one of 24 qualifying spots.
