Golden Eagles Enjoy Opening Weekend at Lake Charles Hidden Dual

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team enjoyed 10 wins in its season opening tournament at the Lake Charles Hidden Duals. Two Golden Eagles won at least two matches in Lake Charles, La., while freshman Henry Lamchinniah picked up his first collegiate win.

"I thought we played really well this weekend and it was great to see Henry show that he can compete at this level as a freshman," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We played some really good AAC teams and then got a good look at Sun Belt competition."

Southern Miss started Friday with a dominating win from Pasawee Reansuwong and Lamchinniah over UTSA, who finished the 2022-23 season ranked No. 41 in the ITA Poll. Later that afternoon, Shamirul Shahril and Lamchinniah picked up singles wins over Sun Belt rival South Alabama. Shahril won 6-4, 1-6, 10-3 on court three, while Lamchinniah won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, on court five.

Lamchinniah and Reansuwong opened Saturday with a 6-4 win in doubles against Louisiana. Dakotah Bobo, Olimjon Nabiev, and Shahril all secured wins in singles against UTSA that afternoon. Bobo and Shahril won in three sets, while Nabiev won in straight sets.

Bobo and Shahril enjoyed a doubles win on Sunday against South Alabama's top pair. Nabiev added a singles win against Rice on court two, while Pawin Jirapoomdaje capped the day with a three-set win on court six against Louisiana.
