Alex Helbling Named Defensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS- After holding preseason favorite South Alabama to a scoreless draw this past Sunday, the league has announced Alex Helbling as the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday.
"Over the past few years, Alex has overcome numerous obstacles. She keeps showing up and does her best work. She has contributed greatly to Southern Miss Soccer, and I'm so proud of her," said Coach El-Zare.
The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native achieved her second shutout of the season, making four vital saves while facing nine shots. This was the first time South Alabama was held scoreless this season since their initial tie with Mississippi State, where they finished with a 1-1 result. Helbling also aided in the third consecutive time Southern Miss managed to keep the Jags from scoring in Hattiesburg.
