HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Head coach Mohammed El-Zare showed appreciation to alumna Chelsea Cruthirds at Sunday's game against LSU.
El-Zare expressed gratitude towards alumna Cruthirds, now Chelsea Poche. Originally from Sorrento, Louisiana, Poche attended Dutchtown High School and was a member of the Black and Gold from 2010 to 2013.
In her senior year, Poche achieved two single-game highs with a conference-best six points against Alcorn State and had a hat trick during that game. Poche ranks seventh in all-time career shots with 124 and secured eighth place for all-time career shots on goal with 60. Near the end of her tenure, she sustained a spinal injury that left her temporarily hospitalized, needing a cane to walk through the remainder of the season.
Recently, she rediscovered the uniform that had to be removed due to her injury, and El-Zare presented her with the framed jersey. Poche is now married with two children and works as a CrossFit coach in Baton Rouge, La. She made an appearance at Sunday's match against LSU, where Southern Miss took the opportunity to honor her before the match.
