Zayne Palomino Set for NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Zayne Palomino, a transfer student on the Southern Miss track and field team, is set to compete in Austin, Texas for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. He has showcased his exceptional skills in the men's high jump during his first year as a Golden Eagle, earning him this opportunity.

Head coach Jon Stuart expressed his pride in Zayne's accomplishments, highlighting his journey as a newcomer who has proven himself. He has dedicated himself to intense training throughout the season, and Coach eagerly anticipates his performance on this grand stage.

As the sole representative in the Black and Gold, Palomino secured his spot in Austin after an impressive performance at the East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla., where he finished 12th. With a single attempt, he effortlessly cleared the first mark. On his third try, he surpassed the bar at 2.04 meters, ultimately sealing his qualification with a successful jump of 2.09 meters. The Kingston, Jamaica natives achievement marked his personal best since the Maroon and White Invitational (April 28-29), where he recorded a height of 2.10 meters. Throughout the year, he attained an outdoor season best of 2.12 meters at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
