Women's Tennis Falls in First Round of SBC Championships

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.-- The Southern Miss women's tennis team was shut out 4-0 by Georgia Southern for the second time this season in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Peachtree City, Ga, Wednesday morning.

"The team competed hard in a very close match today. The doubles point was important and we won at No 3 doubles but lost a close one at No 2.
Overall we learned a lot from our first year in the Sun Belt Conference and our regular seasons are very important towards improving and motivating the team in the future for more success," said head coach Piyanart Engineer.

The Black and Gold's season came to an end after being knocked off by the fourth-seeded Georgia Southen. Hope for the Golden Eagles came in doubles play after Zenn Lim and Suhana Das found a victory 6-4 over Lindsay Tulenko and Ninon Martinache to split the score after Olivia Ryan and Silvia Martinez topped Alyssa Richter and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan 6-1. Unfortunately, Southern Miss gave up the doubles point when Maddison Ricardo and Clara Tardivel dropped their match 7-5.

Georgia Southern captured the first-round match by sweeping three singles sets after taking the lead. In their singles bouts, Suhana Das, Alyssa Richter, and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan all lost. The matches between Lim, Ricardo, and Chambers were unfinished.

In Piyanart Engineer's first season as head coach, Southern Miss finished the season with a 7-12 record. Hannah Chambers and Maddison Ricardo tied for second place with eight victories each, while Zenn Linn took the team's top spot with ten victories. Clara Tardivel finished the season with six. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter led the squad to success in doubles play with nine.
