HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will host Jackson State (3-6, 2-1 SWAC) Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. The rescheduled match will take place at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex and admission is free.
"It feels like we haven't been home in forever, but it will be nice to get the opportunity to play on our home court tomorrow," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We have had success against Jackson State in the past -- they're a good team that has played a tough schedule, though. We worked on technical things early this week in practice in preparation for the match."
The Golden Eagles (5-5) are looking to continue their hot play after a 6-1 thrashing of Nicholls last Sunday in Thibodaux, La. They won five of the six singles matches, while also taking two doubles matches in convincing fashion. Saheb Sodhi and Pasawee Reansuwong were up on court three before going unfinished.
Thursday will be the ninth meeting since 2010 and the sixth-straight in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles have won each of the last nine meetings and have only dropped two matches to the Tigers in that stretch. The 2022 team cruised to a 6-1 win over Jackson State and saw two current Golden Eagles pick up singles wins.
Junior Olimjon Nabiev has paced Southern Miss with seven wins. Shamirul Shahril and Dakotah Bobo are coming off a win over LSU's No. 24-ranked doubles team last Saturday as well.
Southern Miss will go back on the road following the match, traveling to New Orleans on Saturday, March 4. The first serve in the Big East is scheduled for 2 p.m.
