Athletics Enjoys Record Department GPA from Fall Semester

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Department of Athletics student-athletes recorded a record 3.179 overall grade point average during the fall semester and the sixth-straight overall semester above 3.000.
"We are very proud of our student-athletes for their effort to achieve this academic milestone," said Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain. "Our academic staff and our coaches have worked extremely hard to continue to raise the expectations when it comes to our academic standards, and it is rewarding to see our student-athletes answer that call."
Sixteen of the school's 17 sports registered at least a 3.000 during the Fall semester, which includes 46 student-athletes named to the President's List with a perfect 4.000 GPA, 71 being named to the Dean's list with a 3.500 to a 3.999 GPA and 220 student-athletes named to the AD Honor Roll with a GPA of a 3.000 or higher.
The women's teams collectively earned a GPA of 3.463, which is now the highest semester on record. All nine of the school's women's teams earned a GPA of a 3.000 or higher, with Women's Golf leading the way at 3.752. The Women's Tennis added their highest GPA on record with a 3.599.
The men's teams collectively earned a GPA of 2.993, which also ranks as the highest on record. This is the sixth consecutive semester earning a 2.800 GPA or higher. Men's Tennis posted the highest GPA with a 3.392. A huge congratulations to Men's Basketball (3.245) and Men's Track (3.121), which also recorded their highest-ever semester GPA. Of the seven male sports, six posted GPAs of 3.000 or higher, including a best-ever team GPA for football in a semester at 2.773.
