Beach Volleyball Finishes First Day at Huntsville Qualifiers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Ola Chudzik and Sarah Murczek advanced to the championship bracket after a 1-1 showing in bid division pool play before falling to LSU. The pair, along with the rest of Southern Miss' squad, looks to take on their remaining bracket tomorrow.
In the Bid Division, Madison Cassidy and Valeria Siakidou Papakyriakou opened against South Carolina, falling in two sets. The duo finished the day 1-1 after downing Central Arkansas in three sets. Chudzik and Murczek opened their day with a three-set win over Mercer and concluded pool play against LSU. In the championship bracket, Chudzik and Murczek fell in two sets to LSU.
Cassidy/Siakidou will face Eastern Kentucky at 9 a.m. tomorrow in the consolation bracket while Chudzik/Murczek will play in the fifth-place bracket beginning against other pairs to have lost in the first round against North Alabama at 9 a.m.
In the Collegiate Open Division, Emmie Koszalka and Wiio Meinheit led the day with a 1-1 showing. All other pairs battled well but finished 0-2. Koszalka/Meinheit defeated Mercer in two sets after falling to North Alabama.
Ella Rodriguez and Carmen Sanchez Delgado began their day with a close loss to Tulane, falling by two and four points in each match, respectively. Laurel Dennis and Ashlyn Rough also pushed Tulane to the limits, falling in three sets in their final dual of the day.
