Sun Belt Conference Recognizes NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee Katelyn Cartwright at Annual Fall Meetings

NEW ORLEANS- The Sun Belt Conference hosted its annual Fall Meetings on Tuesday evening, formally recognizing its award winners from the 2022-23 season at the Sun Belt Honors Banquet, including one of the NCAA Woman of the Year Nominees, Katelyn Cartwright.
Hailing from Hernando, Miss. Cartwright was a member of the 2022 Sun Belt champions team. During the conference meet, she clinched the 22nd position. She took part in the NCAA Division I South Region Cross Country Championships. In addition to her cross-country endeavors, Cartwright also competed in track and field, achieving a seventh-place finish in both the distance medley relay and the mile at the Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships. In the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships, she secured the 19th spot in the 5000 meters.
Notably, Cartwright holds the distinction of being a two-time Conference USA team champion in Indoor Track & Field for 2021 and 2022, and she also earned the title of Conference USA team runner-up in cross country in 2019.
Following her academic pursuits, Cartwright graduated from Southern Miss with a degree in biological sciences and minors in chemistry and Spanish. In addition to her athletic and academic achievements, she served in various leadership roles, including as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) women's cross-country representative, the Vice President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Outreach Chair of the Minority Association of Premedical Students.
