HATTIESBURG, Miss. – A pair of Southern Miss players, running back Frank Gore, Jr., and linebacker Daylen Gill, each garnered selection to all-bowl team spots Thursday for their play in the LendingTree Bowl last month.
Gore and Gill each earned a slot on the Associated Press all-bowl team, while Gore was also cited for the PFF postseason squad.
In the 38-24 LendingTree Bowl victory over Rice in Mobile, Ala., on Dec. 17, Gore rushed for an FBS Bowl and school-record 329 yards on 21 carries with a 17.5 yards per carry average. His touchdown runs of 64 and 55 yards helped earn him one of the two spots at running back on the PFF squad. His performance additionally saw him throw 2-of-3 passes for 19 yards and a touchdown, which helped him be awarded all-purpose back by the Associated Press.
Gore's record rushing total bested Appalachian State's Camerun Peoples, who rushed for 317 yards against North Texas in the 2020 Myrtle Beach Bowl.
For Gill, he collected a game-high 11 tackles, which included three sacks, 2.5 of them coming in the final quarter, to help the Golden Eagles secure their first bowl victory since 2016.
Southern Miss finished the campaign 7-6 and captured their 18th winning season over the last 23 years.
