Southern Miss Releases 2022 Cross Country Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss cross country has unveiled its 2022 schedule under the direction of second-year head coach Nick Gibson.
"I'm really excited about the upcoming season," said Gibson. "We bring back a strong core group, but were also able to bring in some key new pieces to our team. I know our young ladies are eager to see how competitive we can be in our inaugural season in the Sun Belt."
The Golden Eagles open the season at the North Alabama Showcase for the second-straight year, starting their season in Huntsville, Ala. on Sept. 16. After a week off, the Black and Gold trek to Fayetteville, Ark. to take part in the 34th Annual Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. on Sept. 30.
Southern Miss closes the regular season at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Oct. 14, ahead of their first appearance at the Sun Belt Championships held in Foley, Ala. on Oct. 29.
USM returns to the John Hunt Cross Country Course in Huntsville for the NCAA DI South Regional Meet on Nov. 11, where they'll look to build off an 11th place finish a season ago.
The squad features a mix of experience and youth, with Carlin Beal and Katelyn Cartwright providing senior leadership, while Sarah Parnell returns for her junior campaign. Conference USA Freshman of the Meet for the Indoor Championships Oliwia Wawrzyniak and two-time Conference USA Indoor medalist Smilla Kolbe will both compete in their first cross country season. The Golden Eagles add a pair of newcomers to the mix with transfer Erin Phelps and freshman Rees Van Voorhis joining the team.
