Hall Looks Back to Competition Tuesday Following Wednesday Workout

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – While Southern Miss second-year coach Will Hall talked about that day's practice during his daily preseason media availability Wednesday morning, his thoughts also took him back to the team's previous day workout.
Last season, Hall unveiled Competition Tuesday, a practice day during the week that gives players a chance to solidify or improve their playing time chances. The Golden Eagles returned to Competition Tuesday yesterday and Hall enjoyed what he saw during that workout session.
"Yesterday was one of the best Tuesday's we've ever had here," said Hall. "We are starting to look like a college football team that works with intent. You would have thought it was live out here with the popping and that is the way a Competition Tuesday should be – when you have competition.
"It was a good step in the right direction and we just have to keep going. We have to take advantage of every minute of every day."
Despite expected rain again on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles were able to get in their full practice without interruption from any stormy weather. Morning practices for Southern Miss have been key for Southern Miss to get in all of their work as they head into next Saturday's season opener against Liberty at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Rain has kept the Pine Belt wet over the last couple of weeks, but produced limited interruption in Southern Miss preparation due to the team's morning schedule.
"We got in a full practice in again today in beautiful weather, even when it wasn't supposed to be," said Hall of the expected rainy weather during Wednesday's scheduled workout session.
For Wednesday's practice, Hall saw his team work through a lot of different things, improving in the areas of punt and punt block during the practice, as well as see some progress with some players that have been injured during the preseason.
The Golden Eagles will return to the practice field Thursday morning.
