Southern Miss Travels to Face the Auburn Tigers

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- The Golden Eagles prepare themselves for their first SEC showdown of the season as they take on the Auburn Tigers on Sunday, August 21 at 2 p.m.
Last time out
Southern Miss had a 9-0 win over MGCCC the last time they took the pitch Thursday afternoon.
Forward Esmerelda Figueroa put the Golden Eagles on the board within the first ten minutes of the game as she did during their first exhibition match this season against Pearl River Community College.
Freshmen Grace Gilmore and Emily Welch were both one shot away from a hat trick in the second half.
The Black and Gold were quick to add goals and they posted a clean sheet on Thursday.

The Golden Eagles have had two meetings with the Auburn women's soccer team, one in 2013 that resulted in a loss and the other in 2019 with a 2-0 win.
The opponent
The Auburn women's soccer program is led by head coach Karen Hoppa. This is her 24th season. After defeating Missouri on Oct. 14, 2018, she became the twenty-eighth female head coach to rack up 300 wins at the Division I level. Coach Hoppa has assisted the Tigers to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances throughout her career at Auburn.
As of right now for the 2022 season, Auburn holds a 1-0 record with their 1-0 win over Old Dominion in their season opener.
