Izquierdo Shines in Colombia’s Prep for U20 World Cup

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss sophomore midfielder Ilana Izquierdo (Cali, Colombia) has enjoyed a productive summer for the U20 Colombian Women's National Team as it preps for the U20 World Cup.
The Colombians took home gold at the XIX Bolivarian Games in Valledupar as Izquierdo helped pace Las Cafeteras to a 3-0 mark. They cruised to a 4-1 win against Panama before posting a 4-0 shutout against Paraguay. The Colombians then notched the gold medal with a 3-0 win against Venezuela.
Izquierdo scored three goals throughout the tournament, including a strike from outside the box in the win against Venezuela. The Bolivarian Games is a tournament that occurs every four years in the lead up to the U20 World Cup.
The 2022 U20 Women's World Cup will take place in Costa Rica starting early August. The Colombians are paired in Group B with Germany, New Zealand and Mexico. The full pairing can be found here.
