Women's Soccer Adds Three to 2022 Recruiting Class

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Southern Miss soccer head coach Mohammed El-Zare has announced the additions of Sidney Magliocca (Mississauga, Ont.), Esmeralda Figueroa (Laurel, Miss.) and Bernadett Stefan (Budapest, Hungary) to the 2022 recruiting class.
Sidney Magliocca | Mississauga, Ont. | Winger/Striker
- Has played with Express du College Saint-Sacrement Futsal Team for five seasons
- Played club soccer for A.S. Laval
- Five-time Quebec Champion, 2017 USA Cup Champion
- Was to play for Quebec in the 2021 Canadian Nationals (Canceled due to COVID)
- Also figure skated and ran cross country
"I am extremely excited about to have Sid on our team," El-Zare said. "She is an explosive forward that will bring in a lot more directness to our attack. She is very aggressive and assertive in the final third of the field to increase scoring chances. She's somebody that I see being very successful as part of our offense as she progresses through the program."
Esmeralda Figueroa | Laurel, Miss. | Midfield/Forward
- Spent the last two seasons at Mississippi State
- Three-time (Fall '20, Fall '21, Spring '22) SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree
- Came off the bench to play valuable minutes against eventual SEC Tournament champion Vanderbilt
- Scored 33 goals in two seasons at Jones College
- Won back-to-back MACCC South Division titles and a MACCC/Region 23 Championship in 2018
- Scored 155 goals during her career at Northeast Jones High School
"Esmeralda brings in experience and maturity to our program and we are excited to have her here at Southern Miss," El-Zare said. "She's a player that has great qualities coming out of Mississippi and having played at the SEC level. Having her here as a graduate student is going to bring in a tremendous amount of experience for our young players."
Bernadett Stefan | Budapest, Hungary | Midfield
- Has represented the Hungarian National Team on numerous occasions
- Has scored and assisted in international play
- Has represented the Hungary on the U19 squad
"I am excited to sign Bernadett out of Hungary," El-Zare said. "She has a wealth of experience playing at the international level and also playing on a competitive women's side. She will bring in creativity to our midfield and will make us a lot more sophisticated in terms of attacking in the offensive zone."
