DALLAS -- Three members of the Southern Miss softball team have earned Conference USA honors following the 2022 regular season, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Graduates Tata Davis and Destini Brown were named First Team All-Conference USA team honorees, while Jana Lee was named to the All-Freshman team.
Davis and Brown earned First Team All-Conference USA team status for the second-consecutive season, becoming the first two players in program history to earn back-to-back first-team honors. Lee earns Southern Miss' first freshman-team nod since Brown was honored in 2018.
Davis concluded her final season with the Black & Gold with a batting average of .370, the highest of any Golden Eagle, and her 67 hits rank third in Conference USA and 20th in the nation. The Philadelphia, Miss. native started all 52 games at second base, finishing the year with 104 total bases, 41 RBI and eight home runs. This first-team selection is the second Conference USA postseason honor of her career.
Brown's contributions on offense and at center field earned the McComb, Miss. native her fourth Conference Postseason honor, as she finishes her career as a three-time first-team selection and was named to the All-Freshman team in 2018. Brown recorded 29 stolen bases during the 2022 season, the most of any player in the conference. She finished the season with 59 hits, eight home runs and a team-leading 49 runs to go along with a .990 fielding percentage.
"Destini and Tata are two of the hardest workers on the team," head coach Brian Levin said. "They have been the ultimate example of what it means to be a Golden Eagle. I am extremely grateful that they have been named All-Conference first-team selections, as they deserved that honor."
Lee wrapped up her freshman campaign by leading Southern Miss first-year athletes in almost every statistic. The Albany, Ga. native recorded 51 hits and five home runs with a batting average of .329. Southern Miss relied upon Lee, both as a designated player and in the circle, as she pitched 93.2 innings for the Black & Gold, recording seven complete games for the Golden Eagles.
"Jana had an incredible freshman year," Levin said. "She is only scratching the surface of her potential. If she continues to work at it, I can't wait to see where she goes from here."
The Southern Miss softball program's three honorees are the most since 2019, and the Golden Eagles have earned multiple All-Conference honors for the sixth-consecutive season.
