Southern Miss Set for Tuesday Matchup in Oxford Against Ole Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss softball team heads to Oxford, Miss. for a Tuesday evening tilt with the Ole Miss Rebels. Coming off a successful trip to Florida last week, the Golden Eagles look to increase their win streak to seven games tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.
The Black & Gold traveled to the Sunshine State last week for six games between March 2 and 6. The Golden Eagles opened their week with a 5-4 victory over then-No. 4 Florida before sweeping a five-game slate in Madeira Beach, Fla. at THE Spring Games.
Southern Miss (17-5, 0-0 C-USA) knocked off the likes of Central Michigan, Radford, Omaha, Georgia Southern and Albany over the weekend, outscoring opponents 26-9 in the process. The Golden Eagles racked up seven home runs, three of which came off the bat of graduate student Destini Brown.
Ole Miss welcomes Southern Miss to Oxford with a record of 18-4 under second-year head coach Jamie Trachsel. The Rebels are undefeated at home, with a 6-0 record in the confines of the Ole Miss Softball Complex. Ole Miss looks to pick up its 10th-straight win before conference play begins next week.
Brown is just one stolen base away from becoming the first Golden Eagle in program history to reach the 100 steals mark. The McComb, Miss. native leads Conference USA with 18 steals on the season and grabbed three last weekend.
In the all-time series, Southern Miss trails the Rebels, 23-12. In the 17 contests that have taken place in Oxford, Southern Miss has picked up seven victories, the most recent of which was a 5-2 win on March 24, 2018.
Brown, then in her freshman year, recorded two hits, an RBI and a run in the upset of No. 17 Ole Miss. This marked the last time Southern Miss defeated a ranked opponent, before knocking off No. 4 Florida last week.
