HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's basketball team dropped the last regular season weekday game of the season on Wednesday night, falling to UAB (23-7, 13-4 C-USA), 81-68, at Reed Green Coliseum.
UAB's hot hand from deep proved to be the difference maker, as the Blazers tallied 12 triples to Southern Miss' four. The Golden Eagles (6-24, 1-16 C-USA) found three of those three-pointers from junior Walyn Napper, who finished in double figures for his third-straight game. Napper, along with fellow Columbia, S.C. native Isaih Moore, finished with a team-high 16 points. Moore added 10 rebounds to notch his sixth double-double this season.
Southern Miss fell behind early after UAB's Jordan Walker and Michael Ertel combined for 22 points in the first half. UAB knocked down half of its three-pointers in the first half behind three from Ertel alone. Walker would go on to finish with a game-high 21 points. Down 12 at the break, the Golden Eagles would only get within 10 points over the final 20 minutes after the Blazers led by as many as 22 in the second half. An 11-0 run over the final five minutes by the Golden Eagles made it a 13-point game when all was said and done at the final buzzer.
DeAndre Pinckney and Denijay Harris each suited up in the Black and Gold for the 50th time tonight -- both combined to pour in 26 points. In his best performance donning the Black and Gold, Harris tied a career high in points with 12 and grabbed seven rebounds. Pinckney finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman Rashad Bolden went 3-of-11 from the floor and finished with nine points. He was the only Southern Miss starter not to finish in double figures. The St. Andrew's product added four rebounds and two assists to his stat line.
The Golden Eagles combined to go 22-of-52 from the floor and shot 14 more free throws than UAB. The Blazers went 32-of-68 from the floor for a 47.1 percent clip. UAB grabbed 44 rebounds to Southern Miss' 33.
