BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --Â A big second half from UAB (19-5, 9-2 C-USA) proved to be too much for Southern Miss to overcome at Bartow Arena on Thursday night, as the Golden Eagles (6-17, 1-9 C-USA) fell, 84-63. The win moved the Blazers to 14-0 at home this season.
"They were a very talented team, but I thought we continued to take quality shots there in the second half," said head coach Jay Ladner. "I thought we got in a good rhythm at the beginning of the game. I was pleased with how we played going into halftime and I couldn't have been more proud of our guys."
The two teams went into the break tied at 37-all after Rashad Bolden hit a buzzer beater to end the first half. It was a tale of two halves for the Golden Eagles, with the latter half providing an opening for the Blazers to take control of the game. Southern Miss found itself in a six-minute scoring drought midway through the half, while UAB hit 15 of its first 20 shots to start the final frame.
The hot-shooting Blazers went 17-of-29 from the floor in the second half, and 30-of-65 for the game. They also knocked down eight three-pointers, with Jordan Walker hitting four of them. After shooting 47.1 percent from the floor in the first half, Southern Miss' shooting clip dipped to 20 percent in the second half. The Black and Gold shot 35.6 percent for the game and connected on 4-of-17 three-point attempts.
Tyler Stevenson poured in a team-high 24 points and hit the first three-pointer of his career late in the second half. The Columbus, Miss. native finished with four rebounds and a blocked shot. Bolden finished with 11 points, while DeAndre Pinckney scored 12 for the Golden Eagles.
Isaih Moore added 11 points and connected on all four free throw attempts. As a team, Southern Miss went 17-of-18 from the charity stripe.
