HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- Two Golden Eagle standouts utilized the national stage of the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships to play some of the nation's best.
Kellie Garraway (Madisonville, La. // Saint Scholastica Academy) and Taylor Pierce (Covington, La. // Mandeville HS) played two of the nation's greatest individual pairs in California as part of the USAV Collegiate Beach Championships / USAV National Team tryout.
Two duo played close to LSU's top flight, falling in three sets by only four. The rest of day proved to be less close.
Against UCLA's pair, the Golden Eagle pair fell in straight sets, earning the ninth-seed in the overall tournament later that day.
Against Long Beach State's pair, they fell in straight sets as well.
"This trip to California has been such a blessing and I am grateful for the opportunity," said Garraway. "We got to play against some of the best competition in the nation, which motivates me to further refine my game. I have learned so much from the people we got to meet trianing here leading up to the tournament, and I learned so much from the tournament itself as well. I'm excited to take what I have learned and bring it back with me to my girls in Hattiesburg! Expericencs like this are what is going to bring the Southern Miss beach volleyball program to the next level."
