Ilana Izquierdo Receives Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS -- Golden Eagle sophomore midfielder, Ilana Izquierdo, represents Southern Miss as a member of the Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference Team. The Cali, Colombia received Sun Belt Conference preseason honors earlier this year.
"Ilana is deserving of this and much more that surely will come her way because of not only her talent, but her willingness to grind in order to develop," said women's soccer assistant coach J.P. Valadares.
"Ilana is a natural leader on and off the field. She is so deserving of this and the many more accolades that will come her way because she intentionally earns it every day in every aspect of her life," said assistant coach Haley Knowles.
Izquierdo's season began on a later start than most as she helped guide the Colombian U20 National Team to the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Quarterfinals.
Since returning to the Hub City, she started in all 14 contests for the Black & Gold, anchoring the midfield. Over her 14 appearances, she has booted two goals on 14 shots and also delivered one assist.
Her solid defense has since boosted the Golden Eagle defensive unit and propelled the squad into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Black & Gold's first appearance in the SBC Tournament is set for tonight at 7 p.m. against Georgia State in Foley, Ala.
