Men's Tennis Wraps Up Day Two of ITA Southern Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team finished the second day of the ITA Southern Regionals in Tuscaloosa, Ala. with four wins, including one in the Main Doubles Draw.
Looking to advance through the Qualifying Draw, Shamirul Shahril got his day started in the right direction as he took down Rafeal De Alba. Although De Alba had to retire, Shahril was leading, 5-3. Needing just two more wins to advance to the Main Draw, Shahril ended up losing to Sun Belt foe Vasil Dimitrov of Troy. Dimitrov would take the nightcap match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles kicked off doubles play with Pasawee Reansuwong and Shahril cruising to an 8-5 win against Martinez Serrano/Andres Pastor of Troy. The win sets them up to face Josh Raab and Spencer Gray of Auburn in the second round. Southern Miss' other four doubles pairings all lost in the first round. Taras Ignatiuk and Olimjon Nabiev fell to an Alabama pair, 9-7, while Antoine Audrain and Saheb Sodhi fell to an Auburn pair, 8-5.
Dakotah Bobo and Reansuwong each picked up wins in the Consolation Draw on Friday. Reansuwong beat Santiago Arredondo of Samford, 6-2, 6-7(4-7), 10-4. Bobo came from behind to beat North Alabama's Carlos Matarredona, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
With no Golden Eagles advancing from the Qualifying Draw, Southern Miss will turn to Olimjon Nabiev to carry the weight after being slotted directly into the Main Draw. Nabiev is slated to play Karim Al-Amin of New Orleans at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
