HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Golden Eagle senior Samantha Stiglmair (Karlshuld, Germany-Mississippi State) was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a historic goal and providing an assist over the weekend, the league announced Sep. 21.
The midfielder from Germany began the weekend on Thursday evening in Charlotte as she netted the decisive goal in the 2-0 victory over Charlotte. The win over the 49ers was the first win in program history at Charlotte. In the following match against Marshall on Sunday afternoon, Stiglmair continued her fine form offensively providing the assist for the opening goal in the 4-2 win over Marshall; the first win over the Thundering Herd since 2007.
"The beauty of Sam's performance is in her simplicity. She has a great eye for the game which makes us sophisticated playing with her. I'm glad her hard work is being recognized," noted Head Coach Mohammed El-Zare.
"This is a well-deserved award! Sam has been putting in the work. She has been a threat to other teams so far this season," said Assistant Coach Carly Mauldin. "She brings a sense of calmness to our game. I am so happy for her!"
