Football Utilizes Special Teams Practice Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team went through a special teams heavy practice Friday morning as they got their final session in prior to the squad's second scrimmage of fall camp under first-year coach Will Hall.
The Golden Eagles worked out for about 1 hour, 20 minutes in helmets and shoulder pads and it was more of mental than physical session as the Golden Eagles went through mostly special teams periods during the workout.
"It was a great mental day today as we were in our mandatory helmets day today," said Hall. "We used it to work every kicking game unit to really shore up some assignments and to work some special situations from fakes to defending fakes to the hands team and recovering onside (kicks) – all of those nuances that is more mental than physical."
The Golden Eagles conclude fall camp Saturday morning when they utilize their second full scrimmage over the last four days. Southern Miss starts classes for the Fall semester on Monday.
"We have a big scrimmage tomorrow and we are looking forward to that and it will be a gauntlet again," said Hall. "As you know, we will put a lot of good on good. We will get down in the red zone and will do some two-minute (drill) tomorrow live and some third-down period live and it will be a really fun day and we are looking forward to seeing the competition."
Following the Saturday scrimmage, the Golden Eagles take off Sunday and Monday, prior to return to the practice fields on Tuesday as they continue preparations for the season opener, Saturday, Sept. 4 at South Alabama.
