Southern Miss set to open season with Exhibition against Mississippi State

HATTIESBURG, MISS. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team is set to take the court for the first time this season on Friday for an exhibition against Mississippi State. The Golden Eagles will be put to the test against an SEC opponent before opening regular season play next weekend.
Head coach Stephanie Radecki, now in her fourth season with Southern Miss, aims to improve upon the 2020-21 season, where the Black and Gold finished with a record of 9-10. Radecki, along with her assistant coaches Jennifer McCall and Darian Mack, look to build upon a foundation of returning veterans and incoming talent.
Senior outside hitter Duquesne Moratzka returns following a strong 2020-21 season where she earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors. She is joined by fellow seniors Kinsley Hanback, Addie Ashton, Kellie Garraway, Chloe Klusman and Lauren Talbert. The Golden Eagles' junior class is composed of five returning athletes, Liana Guillemaud, Gillian Hidalgo, Lindsey Legg, Lauren Seibert and Kenzie Smith.
The sophomores looking to make an impact include returners Maddie Stayer and Aliah Giroux, along with newcomers Arianna Barksdale, Reagan Leinen and Mia Wesley. Three freshmen, Cara Atkinson, Izzy Kronenberg and Kallie Siebrasse round out the roster.
Mississippi State makes the trip from Starkville, Miss., for their first exhibition match. The Bulldogs finished the 2020-21 season with a record of 5-15 in an all-SEC schedule. Southern Miss last faced Mississippi State in 2019, falling to the Bulldogs by a score of 3-0 in Hattiesburg.
