Conference USA Adds Beach Volleyball as Sponsored Sport

DALLAS, Texas – Conference USA announced Tuesday that it has added beach volleyball as a sponsored sport beginning in the 2021-22 season. Southern Miss and six other programs will participate as founding members of C-USA beach volleyball.

In conjunction with the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA), the 2022 C-USA Beach Volleyball Championships will be held April 28-30 in Huntsville, Alabama at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex. In addition to the participating Conference USA member institutions Florida Atlantic, FIU, Southern Miss and UAB, three Sun Belt teams will also be affiliate members for beach volleyball in C-USA; Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and Louisiana Monroe.
"While we'll be moving out of one of the oldest beach volleyball conferences, it is exciting that Conference USA will be sponsoring the championship starting this spring," head coach Shawn Taylor said. "This move aligns us with other sports on campus. At the same time, it signifies the momentum and growth of beach volleyball at the collegiate ranks."

Previously, Florida Atlantic, FIU, Southern Miss and UAB (as well as Georgia State and ULM) competed in beach volleyball as members of the CCSA. This group of six, plus the addition of Coastal Carolina in 2022 will compose the inaugural C-USA beach volleyball membership.
"Our goal is to compete at the top of the conference and represent the University of Southern Mississippi," Taylor said. "We couldn't be more ecstatic about doing it under the C-USA banner."
