Men's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Honors; Boast Five ITA Scholar-Athletes
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's tennis continued to be recognized for its work in the classroom as five different Golden Eagles were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
"I am very proud of our team for achieving ITA All-Academic Team honors and five of the team members achieving ITA Scholar-Athlete honors," head coach Zubin Engineer said. "This is a good testimony of the diligence and work ethic of the team throughout the year."
Antoine Audrain, Christopher Cahour, Alexander Gima, Vence N'Tcha and Olimjon Nabiev all were recognized by the ITA for their accomplishments in the classroom.
Audrain, Cahour and N'Tcha earned President's List honors for boasting a 4.0 GPA, while Nabiev made the Dean' List (3.500-3.999). Gima also made the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll with at least a 3.0.
As a team, it marks the second year in a row that the team has had five or more student-athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The group finished with the highest GPA during both the fall and spring semesters among all Southern Miss men's teams, boasting an impressive 3.45 team GPA.
The squad finished the season at No. 10 in the ITA Southern Region rankings, having the best start to a season at 5-0 since 2005 and Engineer picking up his 100th victory as head coach of the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles were one of only 145 Division I men's programs awarded the All-Academic team honor.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale) and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
