Flammia, Pennington Earn C-USA All-Academic Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss soccer standout defenders Madisyn Flammia and Macie Pennington have each been named to Conference USA's All-Academic Second Team for their accomplishments on and off the field.
The Golden Eagles (6-3-0) enter Tuesday's C-USA Quarterfinals with a 4-2 league record, the highest percentage in their C-USA history. The squad will battle FAU at 4 p.m. CT. The duo marks Southern Miss' ninth-such honorees in head coach Mohammed El-Zare's eight-year tenure. Senior JoAnnie Ramos earned accolades last year as well.
Flammia is majoring in applied economics (minoring in math) and holds a 4.0 GPA. The sophomore from Panama City, Fla., has started in eight of the team's nine games and has 10 shots offensively. Pennington boasts a 3.91 GPA in biological sciences with a chemistry minor. The senior and Townsend, Delaware, native has started all nine games and also had CoSIDA Academic All-District honors at her previous school, Caldwell University.
Eligiblity for the All-Conference team requires one to hold a 3.2 GPA, sophomore-or-higher standing and be a starter or key reserve. Southern Miss had 20 players that qualified in the former two.
