HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich has been named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday, March 23. Today marks the first time that Mindnich has been named C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week this season.
Mindnich was a game changer for the Golden Eagle squad in their match versus The Mean Green. She kept the net all 90 minutes of competition and her defensive performance secured a Sunday afternoon win for the Golden Eagles.
The Melbourne Beach, Fla. native held North Texas at the gate recording six saves on seven shots on goal by The Mean Green. The defensive effort notched a season high in saves for the Mindnich. She leads the Golden Eagles in saves and wins, and concluded the contest with an outstanding .857 save percentage versus an explosive North Texas offense.
Southern Miss head soccer coach Mohammed El-Zare has been impressed with Mindnich's play and development as a student-athlete.
"Kendell has commendable leadership skills and her performance was one of the best in program history," said head coach Mohammed El-Zare. "She has been a leader since day one and continues to help our team grow on and off the field."
Each week during the season, C-USA awards one offensive, defensive, and goalkeeper of the week award. Mindnich is the second Southern Miss player to be awarded one of the weekly conference awards this season.
