HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball junior Domonique Davis has been named the C-USA Player of the Week by the league office, after her performances against Alabama and Samford last week.
"We are extremely proud of Dom," said head coach Joye Lee McNelis. "She has improved daily with different aspects of her game. She is a competitor and want to do what it takes to help her team be successful."
Davis currently ranks third in the C-USA in scoring at 17.5 PPG. The DeRidder, La. native dropped a conference-leading 29 points on Saturday to secure a win over Samford. She went four-of-five from beyond the arc, including a perfect 3-of-3 in the fourth quarter.
Davis sealed the game at the free throw line with a career-high nine makes at the charity stripe, including the last seven points for the Lady Eagles at the line on Saturday.
In her first four games in the Black and Gold, Davis has been the leading scorer in three games, while also dishing out 19 assists to rank fourth in the category among Conference USA student-athletes.
For the week, Davis averaged 21.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 3.5 APG and 2.0 SPG.
The recognition marks the first time that a Lady Eagle has taken home the Conference USA Player of the Week Award since Shonte Hailes back in February of 2019.
Davis and the rest of the Southern Miss women's basketball team returns to action on Friday to open the annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic with a contest against Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at Reed Green Coliseum.
