HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Duquesne Moratzka has been honored as a member of the 2021 Conference USA All-Academic Team following a stellar season on the court and in the classroom.
The Cheyenne, Wyo. native holds a 4.0 GPA in Speech Pathology and Audiology and joins 10 other C-USA student-athletes on the All-Academic squad. Moratzka represents Southern Miss as one of nine programs with a student-athlete on the All-Academic team.
"Duquesne is the definition of a student-athlete," head coach Stephanie Radecki said. "She is an amazing teammate and represents our program so well."
Moratzka's success throughout the fall was not limited to the classroom, as she served as a key contributor for the Golden Eagles throughout the 2021 season. She finished the season with an average of 2.53 kills per set, which was the second-highest mark on the team.
She also finished her year with 176 kills, which was the fourth-most of any Golden Eagle, despite missing the final nine matches of the season with an injury. Mortazka also tallied 39 blocks, 10 service aces and nine solo blocks in her second season with Southern Miss.
"It's such an honor to be recognized in this way," Moratzka said. "Both my parents are teachers, my brother is a teacher, so obviously academics has been ingrained in us since we were very young. I put in a lot of hard work in the classroom as a student-athlete, so getting that recognition is always nice."
All members of the All-Academic team posted a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Moratzka, along with Samira Lawson Body and Hailey Duncan of Old Dominion are the only members of the team with a GPA of 4.0.
Moratzka becomes the ninth Golden Eagle in program history to earn C-USA All-Academic honors and is the first to do so since Sarah Bell in 2018.
"I feel honored to have the chance to coach her," Radecki said. "I am very proud of what she has achieved and am confident she will continue to have a huge impact on our program."
This is Moratzka's second conference honor, as she was named a Second-Team All-Conference USA team member last season.
