2021 C-USA Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior defender Caitlin Pierce was tabbed a 2021 C-USA Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference selection.
Pierce, a native of Pantego, Texas was named to the C-USA Women's Soccer All-Conference Second Team in her previous season and has now been recognized for her continual effort as a senior. Throughout her Southern Miss career, Pierce has been a fundamental part of the Golden Eagles' backline.
In 2019, Pierce led a defensive campaign shutting out 5 opponents. Four of the shutouts were in consecutive matches. This chain of scoreless opponents broke Southern Miss Women's Soccer history and set a record for the longest streak of shutouts since 2003.
On September 15, 2019, Pierce was named the C-USA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. She became the first Southern Miss player to earn the weekly honor since Beth Coleman in 2016.
The senior defender started thirty-five games in her previous two seasons. In 2019, Pierce notched a total of 1,454 minutes of playing time and was responsible for two assists, two points and took six shots.
Pierce collected her first assist of the 2019 season in Southern Miss' 2-0 road victory at Auburn after assisting Hailey Pohevitz on the game-winning goal. She picked up her second assist of the season in the Golden Eagles' road contest against the Charlotte 49ers.
Pierce ended the season in a three-way tie with Hailey Pohevitz and JoAnnie Ramos' as Southern Miss' leader in assists.
Over the course of her career Pierce has vastly impacted the Southern Miss Women's Soccer program and will remain a must-watch player in the 2021 season.
