HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Freshman guard Kahia Warmsley has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Week after her performances against UTSA. Warmsley posted back-to-back career highs and the most points by a Southern Miss athlete this season in the two games against the Roadrunners. She joins teammate Melyia Grayson who has already received the award twice this season.
The Shreveport, La. native returned to the starting lineup for the Lady Eagles on Friday night and got the offense going in the first half, scoring all of her career-high 11 points in the first 20 minutes of the contest as Southern Miss scored a season-high 88 points in the win over the Roadrunners. She wasted no time posting another career high in game two, dropping 25 on Saturday. Warmsley's 25 points were the most by a Southern Miss player so far this season. Over the two games, the freshman averaged 18.0 PPG, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and swiped three steals, while shooting at a 63.6 percent clip, including a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc in the pair of wins.
Southern Miss is currently riding a three-game win streak and will look to continue the streak against rival Louisiana Tech on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT from the Thomas Assembly Center.
