Southern Miss Football Scrimmage Highlights from Saturday Evening

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss conducted its second full-team scrimmage Saturday evening at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium as the continued preparations for the 2020 season opener at home against South Alabama.
The game is set to take place, Thursday, Sept. 3, and season tickets are still available by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, or by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or 601-266-5418 during normal business hours.
Here are a few highlights from Saturday's evening scrimmage:
* Quarterback Jack Abraham hit Tim Jones for a 99-yard touchdown on the opening play of the scrimmage.
* Abraham threw for 229 yards on 10-of-20 passing, which included passes to Jason Brownlee for 45 yards and Luke Baker for 23.
* Tate Whatley had 78 throwing yards on 8-of-16 throws.
* The offense committed just one fumble, which was recovered by Camron Harrell, and the QB did not throw a pick.
* Freshman Frank Gore, Jr., ran for 72 yards on 11 carries, while Kevin Perkins added 55 yards on six carries and three TDs. His three touchdowns were of 42, 1 and 3 yards.
* Tim Jones caught two passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, while Jason Brownlee had two catches for 50. Naricuss Driver had a 32-yard TD catch from Whatley, which was his only throw for a score.
* The Golden Eagles were 4-for-4 on field goal attempts as Briggs Bourgeois hit attempts of 49, 35 and 41 yards. Andrew Stein made a 30-yard attempt. The snap was bobbled on his other attempt.
* The defense registered nine sacks in the scrimmage.
