HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior quarterback Jack Abraham (Oxford, Miss.) earned a spot on the 2020 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List, presented by A.O. Smith Corporation, in an announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Abraham started in all 13 games a season ago and became only the third Golden Eagle QB to throw for over 3,000 yards in a season. The second-year starter finished the year with 3,496 passing yards, tying him with Austin Davis (2011) for the second-most passing yards thrown in a season.
Abraham's passing efficiency of 144.48 for the year is third best for a Golden Eagle quarterback in a season, while his 275 completions ranks as fourth-most. He tossed at least one TD pass in 11 of 13 games and threw for over 200 yards on nine occasions, 300 yards in four games and 400 yards twice.
His 400-yard passing games included 463 versus Troy and 421 against North Texas. The passing performance at Troy is the second-highest passing performance in school history. Abraham's passing numbers also included seven pass plays of 60 yards or longer, coming in six different games and included five touchdown throws.
His accomplishments for last season included one school record for consecutive completions by converting his first 17 passes at Troy (9/14), while earning two C-USA Offensive Player of the Week awards following the UTEP (9/28) and North Texas (10/12) contests. Abraham also completed the season by converting 67.9 percent of his pass attempts.
Abraham was named to C-USA All-Academic team and to the CoSIDA Academic District 6 squad and has plans to attend Dental School following graduation.
The namesake of the Golden Arm Award has a storied history.
