HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team cleaned up in academic achievements from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday as six Golden Eagles earned individual distinction and the team as a whole was recognized as well with a 3.237 GPA.
The ITA Scholar-Athletes were freshmen Antoine Audrain, Emilio Bowen, Christopher Cahour, Alexander Gima, Vence N'Tcha and sophomore Matthieu Peres. The group marked the most in head coach Zubin Engineer's seven-year Southern Miss tenure.
Audrain and Cahour made the President's List (4.0), while Gima, N'Tcha and Peres attained Dean's List status (3.5).
The Golden Eagles were also 8-5, including a shutout of C-USA foe UAB, before the season was suspended in March due to COVID-19.
"I am very proud of our team," Engineer said. "They have been true student-athletes in working hard on and off the court. Our season unfortunately ended early, and I would have loved to see how things could have turned out. We look forward to coming back even stronger next year.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale) and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
