HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss track and field star Eric Richards earned Indoor All-America honors in the high jump from the USTFCCCA on Tuesday. It marks the third-such honor of the senior's career and his second in the indoor circuit.
Richards, a native of Utica, Miss., was set to compete in the NCAA Championships before it was canceled one day out due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He hit a new personal-best at the Houston G5 Super 22 Invitational (Jan. 31), jumping to a height of 7'4.5" which broke his own school record and moved him into a then-tie for third (currently fifth) in the NCAA and top-15 in the world.
At the C-USA Championships on Feb. 23, he defended his title with a 6'11.5".
This also marks the 21st All-America honor in head coach Jon Stuart's six years at the helm. Richards was also a four-time NJCAA All-American at Hinds CC before coming south to Hattiesburg.
