HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Southern Miss quarterback Trey Lowe has been honored as one of the Manning Award's Stars of the Week for his performance in Thursday's 45-31 win over Florida Atlantic.
Fans have until Thursday at 11 a.m. CT to vote on the Sugar Bowl's official Facebook page, with the winner being named Manning QB of the Week.
Lowe, a redshirt-sophomore, had career-high performances in passing (209 yards) and rushing (70). He was 13-for-19 through the air with two touchdowns and another on the ground, each marking his first scores as a Golden Eagle. He also had a 25-yard run on a fake-reverse that set up a five-yard TD strike to Tim Jones.
Southern Miss' 45 points and 514 yards marked a season-high, and the Owls entered the night ranked No. 3 and No. 7 in scoring (12.4 ppg) and total defense (299.6 ypg), respectively.
Lowe, a native of Collierville, Tenn., is a graduate transfer from West Virginia, where he also played baseball.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
