Men's Basketball Unveils 2020-21 Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The time has come for the Golden Eagle men's basketball program to officially announce its 2020-21 schedule. The 26-game slate, pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will begin Nov. 28-29 at the MKE Classic in Milwaukee.

There, the team will play Milwaukee (3 p.m.) and North Dakota State (10 a.m.) on consecutive days. Southern Miss defeated NDSU inside Reed Green Coliseum for its first win of the 2015-16 season.

The Black and Gold's home opener is Dec. 2 against William Carey.

Road games against Southern Illinois (Dec. 5) and Tulane (Dec. 9) follow and serve as home-and-home return games from the previous season.

The non-conference slate concludes with South Alabama at home (Dec. 12), Lamar on the road (Dec. 15) and ULM back at home on Dec. 19. The Golden Eagles last played Lamar in Alaska's Top of the World Classic in 2005. The meeting with the Warhawks marks the first since 1999, and Southern Miss leads that series 22-15 all-time.

Both of those December home dates coincide with doubleheaders with the women's basketball team, who will play Mississippi State and William Carey, respectively. The facility will clear out during each intermission for cleaning.

Per Conference USA regulations, Reed Green Coliseum's capacity will be limited to 1,200 fans. Those looking to catch the team in person this season must be season-ticket holders and can be advised of the below policies. Reserved allocated seating for all season ticket holders to ensure social distancing
Digital/contactless ticketing will be the primary ticket delivery method, unless physical tickets are requested
Hand sanitizer stations at entrances and throughout the entire arena
Social distancing measures while in the concourses, concession stand and restroom lines
Increased cashless only concession and merchandise stands; limited cash stands will still be available
Several food and safety protocols for concession stands and employees
Mandatory face coverings at all times while in the arena. Fans must wear face coverings to enter arena, while in transit throughout arena, and while seated.

Southern Miss will have its 18-game Conference USA slate that also features a new health-and-safety model. Beginning Jan. 1 and 2, home games with UTEP, the team will play every Friday and Saturday against the same team the rest of the way. Homestands include Middle Tennessee, North Texas and Florida Atlantic, while road trips will be to UAB, UTSA, Rice and FIU. One amendment to that will be hosting Louisiana Tech on Thursday, Jan. 28 and squaring off in Ruston two days later.

All Southern Miss C-USA weeknight league games will be at 7 p.m., while Saturdays will tip at 4 p.m. to comply with the 21-hour rule. The week prior to the Conference USA Championships (March 10-13) will be held open.
