
Southern Miss Women’s Basketball Releases 2020-21 Schedule

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball and head coach Joye Lee McNelis announced the team's 2020-21 schedule Wednesday.
The season begins with the 33rd annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, as the Golden Eagles will take on Alabama A&M (Nov. 27) and Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 28).
The Black and Gold welcome McNeese St. (Dec. 5), Nicholls St. (Dec. 8) to Reed Green as well as in-state foe Mississippi State (Dec. 12) to close out the opening homestand.
The Lady Eagles hit the road for the first time on Dec. 17 as they face a second-straight SEC opponent in Alabama before ending non-conference action at home with William Carey on Dec. 19.
This season, Conference USA will move to a new 18-game regular season format for conference play that focuses on the health and safety of student-athletes. In this format, schools will play two games per visit at four select C-USA schools and host four select teams for a two-game series while playing a rival opponent once at home and once on the road.
The team opens C-USA play on the road beginning Thursday, Dec. 31 with a trip to El Paso, Texas, to take on the homestanding Miners in a two-game set. Southern Miss will also travel to play Middle Tennessee State (Jan. 14 & 16), Louisiana Tech (Jan. 28), North Texas (Feb. 11 & 13) and Florida Atlantic (Feb. 25 & 27).
The Lady Eagles will start the home conference slate against UAB facing off against the Blazers on Jan. 7 and again on Jan 9. The Golden Eagles will also host UTSA (Jan. 21 & 23), Louisiana Tech (Jan. 30), Rice (Feb. 4 & 6) and FIU (Feb 18 & 20) during its home conference schedule.
The 2021 C-USA Basketball Championships presented by the Baylor, Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star are scheduled for March 10-13 in Frisco, Texas. This will be the fourth year that the event will be held in Frisco.
Television designations and times will be announced at a later date.

"We are excited to release the 20-21 schedule," McNelis said. "This schedule presents some tough teams in our non-conference that we believe will prepare us to compete against the experienced teams in Conference USA."
