
Softball Announces Fall Schedule

The Golden Eagles’ fall schedule includes seven contests.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss head softball coach Brian Levin has announced the team's fall schedule, which includes a total of seven contests; five at home and two away.

"We are excited to get out on the field and compete. We have put together a schedule this fall that allows us to play good competition which will aid in our ability as a staff to evaluate our personnel. Also, with five games at home it gives the fans an early glimpse of the 2019-20 team. We are looking forward to it."

Southern Miss' 2019-20 roster will feature a total of 22 players, 17 returners and five freshmen. Of the 17 returners, three are seniors, seven are juniors and seven are sophomores.

The breakdown of our players is as follows:
The senior class has SS Lacey Sumerlin (Mobile, Ala. / University of Georgia / Baker HS), RHP/UT Bailie Springfield (Mantee, Miss. / Itawamba CC / East Webster HS) and INF Beth Taylor (Silverhill, Ala. / Robertsdale HS).

The junior class consists of INF Heather Hill (Cabot, Ark. / Cabot HS), UT Karley Nichols (Brandon, Miss. / Brandon HS), CF Destini Brown (McComb, Miss. / Parklane Academy), 3B Alyssa "Tata" Davis (Philadelphia, Miss. / Philadelphia HS), OF Kaley Fruge (Stuttgart, Ark. / Stuttgart HS), OF Amber Pack (Brandon, Miss. / Brandon HS) and INF Jamie Powell (Petal, Miss. / Petal HS).

The sophomore class is composed of C Bre Blankenship (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge HS), OF Caroline Casey (Hernando, Miss. / Hernando HS), RHP Kaylan Ladner (Kiln, Miss. / Hancock HS), OF Kaitlyn Passeau (Lucedale, Miss. / George County HS), RHP Makenna Pierce (Daphne, Ala. / Daphne HS), LF Madison Rayner (Stringer, Miss. / Stringer Attendance Center) and INF Terrica Williams (Loganville, Ga. / Archer HS).

Southern Miss will have a solid foundation to build on thanks to key returners like Sumerlin, Brown and Nichols.

After the 2019 season, Sumerlin became the first Southern Miss player to earn NFCA All-Region First Team honors Megan Hill in 2009. Sumerlin was named to the NFCA Division I South Region First Team. In addition, Sumerlin was tabbed a C-USA First Team All-Conference selection.

Like Sumerlin, Brown also garnered C-USA First Team All-Conference honors while Nichols collected C-USA Second Team All-Conference honors.

The Southern Miss coaching staff will be made up of four new faces as Head Coach Brian Levin, Assistant Coaches Mark Mulvany and Devin Lowe and Graduate Assistant Izzy Werdann all enter their first season with the program.

The Levin era will get underway on Saturday, September 28 when Southern Miss travels to Clinton, Miss. for the Belhaven Tournament. In the tournament, Southern Miss is scheduled to face Hinds Community College at 10:00 a.m. and Coastal Alabama Community College – South at 12:00 p.m. The games will be played at Traceway Park.

Southern Miss will kick off its home fall slate by hosting Copiah-Lincoln Community College in a single game at the Southern Miss Softball Complex on Friday, October 11 at 4:00 p.m.

The Golden Eagles will return to the diamond on Sunday, October 13 to host the East Central Community College Warriors in a double header. Game one of the double header will be at 2:00 p.m. and game two is set for a 4:00 p.m. start. The games will be played at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

Southern Miss will conclude its fall season on Saturday, October 19 when they welcome William Carey University and Meridian Community College to the Southern Miss Softball Complex. Southern Miss will square off against cross-town foe William Carey at 10:00 a.m. and then take on Meridian Community College at 2:00 p.m.
