Golden Eagles Travel to Georgia Southern Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss (0-7,0-0 C-USA) women's volleyball team heads to the Georgia Southern Invitational in search of its first win of the 2019 season. The Golden Eagles will be joined by Georgia Southern (2-2, 0-0 Sun Belt), Winthrop (3-3, 0-0 Big South), and UNC Asheville (4-3, 0-0 Big South) in Statesboro.

The Golden Eagles suffered a 3-0 road defeat to Louisiana on Tuesday night. Senior Ashley Chapman paced the Golden Eagles with a career night, smacking eight kills on a .208 hitting clip. The Alabama native racked up five kills in the game's final set.
Piper Matsumoto and Summer Johnson combined for 25 assists and six digs. Despite the loss, junior Madison Lawler posted a game-high 18 digs for the Golden Eagles. In Kaile Tuisamatatele's best Southern Miss game to date, the junior transfer stuffed three Ragin' Cajun attacks.

Winthrop heads to Statesboro in the midst of a three-game losing streak after sweeping its opening weekend. At the American University Tournament, the Eagles dropped two contests in five sets while also getting swept by Temple.
Host Georgia Southern sports a 2-2 record after its tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. was canceled due to Hurricane Dorian. The Eagles defeated USC Upstate in three sets on Saturday in a last-minute match due to the hurricane changing schedules.
UNC Asheville will start the weekend as the only team with a winning record after jumping to a 4-3 start. The Bulldogs are 3-1 in their last four games and knocked off South Carolina State in three sets on Tuesday.
All-time series
The meetings against Winthrop and UNC Asheville will mark the first time Southern Miss has played either school. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series against Georgia Southern, 2-0. The last Southern Miss win was a five-set match in 2010 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
