Southern Miss head women’s soccer coach Mohammed El-Zare has announced the additions of Alice Campos, Macie Pennington and Jacky Manteas to the Golden Eagles 2019 roster.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team has added three student-athletes to its roster. Alice Campos, Macie Pennington and Jacky Manteas come to Southern Miss as transfers by way of Northwestern Oklahoma State, Caldwell University and FIU respectively.
El-Zare on the signing of the trio
"Jacky, Macie and Alice are all transfers and they are mature individuals. They have had the experience to understand and know what life as a collegiate student-athlete is like. They already understand time management and how to balance school work and athletics. They bring a lot of experience and maturity to our team which is needed. We are excited for the experience that they will bring to our team. It is easy to tell after just one training session with them that they are great young ladies, will bring a lot of knowledge to our team and they are helping our younger players adjust to being college athletes. I am excited for their contributions and I am looking forward to great things from them."
Campos, who will be a sophomore forward for the Golden Eagles this fall after sitting out the 2018 season at Northwestern Oklahoma State, had a highly-decorated club and high school career. Over the course of her club and high school career, Campos spent time playing for Sao Paulo FC, Guarani FC, Palmeiras, Valinhos, Ponte Preta and Rio Branco College.
Campos racked up numerous accolades throughout her club and high school career including: three Striker Metropolitan Cup appearances, three Silver Ball trophies, one Golden Boot trophy, the Best Player of the Metropolitan Cup Award and the Best Player of the Year Award. Pennington, a native of Bear, Del. will serve as a forward and defender for the Golden Eagles for the 2019 season in what will be her junior campaign. Pennington was a key player for Caldwell University during the 2018 season, starting all 20 of the Cougars' contests. Pennington's 12 assists and five goals scored were the second-most assists and goals recorded by any Caldwell player during the 2018 season.
