Southern Miss Holds Saturday Night Scrimmage

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagle football team went under the lights in The Rock for its Saturday night scrimmage, competing for just over two hours.

"I was really pleased," head coach Jay Hopson said. "I thought there was a lot of give-and-take. The offense moved the ball well in the middle of the field. The defense was stingy in the red zone. I saw some guys make some plays, like Steven Anderson running the ball and Dee Baker showing some things too. Our receivers played well.

"Defensively, we tackled pretty well. You're always happy with that. It was a good day, and I thought we got a lot accomplished in our last scrimmage. We will try to get better every week."

The team began with series from its own 1-yard line before progressing to the 20 and onward. Eventually, the offense started overtime possessions, followed by first-and-goals and two-minute drills to close it out.

Southern Miss will kick off the 2019 slate on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. versus Alcorn State. Single-game and season tickets are on sale via SouthernMissTickets.com, calling 1-800-844-TICK, or visiting the Pat Ferlise Center during normal business hours.
