Barnhill will serve women's basketball as the Director of Operations.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss' Lady Eagle staff for the 2019-20 season has been completed with the addition of Christian Barnhill as the Director of Basketball Operations.
Barnhill spent one season at Tulsa as the women's basketball team's Video Coordinator, where he oversaw all aspects of the team's video needs. He also helped with scouting, on campus recruiting, creating recruiting mailouts, graphics for social media, creating highlight tapes as well as summer basketball camps.
Prior to Tulsa, Barnhill was the Graduate Assistant for the men's basketball team at the University of Stevenson. He primarily oversaw team operations with regards to equipment, team travel, scheduling, and academics. He was involved with scouting, game planning, recruiting, and worked primarily with the post players during practice.
Barnhill also served on staff for the 2018 Reese's NABC College All-Star Game where he helped facilitate operations and equipment for the event during the 2018 Men's Final Four in San Antonio, Texas.
Previously, Barnhill served as a student manager at Southern Miss for four years, with the last three as the head manager under head coach Doc Sadler. Along with the primary duties of managing equipment and assisting with drills during practice, he assisted with video operations, scouting, scheduling, team travel, and on-court player development. He was involved with recruiting, social media, as well as both official and unofficial visits by recruits to the program. He also helped with fundraising for the Southern Miss Hardwood Club, and was instrumental in planning and organization of the summer basketball camps held by the program. Along with Barnhill, Coach Joye Lee-McNelis' son, Connor, also served as a manager.
Barnhill graduated from Southern Miss in May of 2017 with his degree in Sports Coaching Education and held a Leadership Scholarship. He also worked on campus in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and was an active member of the Physical Education Majors Club. Barnhill completed his Master's degree from Stevenson in Communications in May of 2019.
Barnhill replaces Drew Granger in the Director of Basketball Operations role, who left Southern Miss to return to the football field as a coach at Columbia High School.
