HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior first baseman Hunter Slater earned one of 11 spots on the 2019 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team, which was released by the league office on Wednesday.
Slater, from Mobile, Ala., holds a 3.36 in biological sciences and collected Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll four times. In addition, he made the University's President's and Dean's List once as well as the Athletic Director's Honor Roll multiple times.
On the field, Slater garnered attention as a member of the C-USA Preseason team. He has not disappointed as he ranks third on the team in batting at .315. He also leads the team in at bats (200) and is tied for number of hits (63) along with holding a team-best 21 multi-hit games (12, 2-hit; 9, 3-hit).
One of only three Golden Eagles to start in every game, Slater made the transition to first base from the outfield prior to last season and continues to impress with his defensive skills.
Slater tied a pair of school records earlier this season with three home runs and eight RBI in a game against New Orleans.
This is Slater's first C-USA All-Academic award and the fifth-straight year that the program has had at least one honoree.
Slater and the Golden Eagles return to action for their final regular-season games, starting Thursday, at home against UAB. The series opener is set for 6 p.m., at Pete Taylor Park.
